Jon Myers is a Research Scientist in the Human-AI Resonance Lab. Prior to coming to MIT, he served as a researcher in systematic musicology at UC Santa Cruz, where he created the IDTAP, an NEH-funded, web-based platform with a custom notation and data representation for the transcription and analysis of Hindustani music.
He received his DMA in algorithmic music composition from UC Santa Cruz in 2022, following a BA in Music from Wesleyan University and an MA in Music Composition from Mills College. His broader work spans generative composition, spatial audio and ambisonic field recording, and the computational modeling of world music traditions.
His current research centers on representation and epistemic bias in music AI — designing data architectures that engage diverse musical traditions on their own analytical terms — as well as speculative music theory, principally around just intonation and non-metric temporality.
